Day 44: Cooktown
Cooktown is very small and tranquil with a population of 1600. It has enormous amounts of history and the town was once a lot larger with around 20,000 residents during its gold rush, circa 1874.
Sue, Oly and I visited the James Cook Museum in the afternoon which was originally St Mary's Convent and School. The Endeavour anchor which Cook ditched in the river has been housed here since it was raised in 1971.
We met up with Sue's friends, Ross and Rosslyn for dinner in the restaurant 1770. Oly and I had a rather divine fillet while overlooking the thunderstorm on the river.
